At the tail end of 2010 and it is time to appraise the improvements of this year. For me, 2010 is a magic year which offers lots of opportunities and challenges to me, and the most important thing is that I have made great progress during this year. Take communication for example, I gained some helpful experience when talking with clients, and now I would like to share them with you.
I am a salesman in a hi-tech electronic products company, introduce our new products to different customers in a local store. Learning the useful communication skills from books and other team members, I think it is necessary to share them with those who are still on the way to be an effective salesman or speaker.
1. Take deep breaths to steady yourself before you begin to communicate. Not only can you get relaxation but also enjoy the following process. Get into the habit of solid, regular breathing during a conversation, which will help you to keep a steady, calm voice. It will also keep you more relaxed. Pauses can be used to take a breath whenever for a rest or some exact purpose. I have to say that my manager Morrissey is one of those people who master this skill when addressing wholesaler in trade fair introducing
bluetooth headphones or on other formal occasions. He has a magic ability to add such a
headphone into his words like telling an interesting story.
2. Use hand gestures carefully. Be conscious of what your hands are doing as you are speaking. Hand gestures can be divided into open gestures (positive responses) or closed/concealed gestures (negative responses). On one hand, hand gestures can be effective method to emphasize your key points, which is open gesture. Although some of the listeners can be distracted by them; on the other hand, hand gestures can lead the conversation to an end, which is closed gesture. Learn the special meaning of different hand gesture before you use them in order to prevent any mistakes or offensiveness. Furthermore, watching the hand gestures of other people’s is a quick way to learn.
3. Choose the right time. As you know, there is a time and a space for everything, so communication is no different. Avoid discuss a heavy topic at your leisure time, such as the war in the world now. That time is for a simple topic like the latest handbag in this season, such is topic easily attracts your audiences. Instead, heavy topics are suggested to leave for mornings and afternoon times, when people are alert, available, and more likely to be able to hear what is said and to respond with clarity.
4. Choose the right place. If you are going to discuss the Wholesale
lithium batteries contract with clients, you’d better not choose a coffee bar or pub, while an office is, in my opinion, a best place to do such a work.
The communication skills above can be used both individually and together. Find the best one in your mind and succeed in your communication.
